Marlene Emilia Rios is an award-winning Los Angeles based writer and director. She holds an MA from the London Film School in Filmmaking as well as a BFA in Film & Digital Media from the University of New Mexico . Her 16mm horror short 'SANGRE,' premiered at the San Pedro International Film Festival in 2017 as her directorial debut.
In addition to writing and directing her capstone film, 'We Choose To Go' she successfully ran the Kickstarter crowdfunding campaign, raising 190% of their campaign goal with over 100 backers behind the project. 'We Choose To Go' screened at over 15 international film festivals, and was picked up for distribution by DUST, where it's accumulated 150,000 views. Marlene was also awarded the 2020 UFVF/Kodak Excellence in Filmmaking Grant for her work on 'We Choose To Go.' As she continues directing, she hopes to continue telling stories that are deeply personal and to ask tough questions through her work.
